The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have acquired quarterback Stefan LeFors from the Edmonton Eskimos today. Winnipeg sends their second round pick in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft, and a conditional pick in the 2010 Draft in exchange for LeFors.
LeFors (6-0, 203, Louisville ’05, DOB: June 7, 1981 in Baton Rouge, LA) comes from Edmonton where he has spent his first two CFL seasons as a back-up to starting pivot Ricky Ray. “I’m very excited about Stefan joining our organization. I spent last year in Edmonton with him and witnessed how he handles himself as a professional,” said head coach Mike Kelly. “The first two qualities I look for in a quarterback are intelligence and toughness. Stefan possesses both of those without any reservations. He’s proven he’s a winner and we’re excited to welcome him to the club.” The 27-year-old out of Louisville has played well when given the opportunity in Edmonton. Starting five games in 2007 when Ray was injured, LeFors completed 110 of 181 passes (60.8%) for 1,193 yards and six touchdowns. LeFors was the CFL offensive player of the week in a game against Saskatchewan when he threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns. LeFors was a fourth round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2005 NFL Draft after a stellar college career at Louisville. At Louisville, LeFors threw for 5,853 yards and 38 touchdowns. He is the school’s fourth all-time leading passer, and number one all-time in pass completion percentage (66%). In his senior year in 2004, LeFors was the Conference player of the year and a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
